Driven Leadership: Ryan Higginbotham

Architect of the Horned Frog Dynasty

Ryan Higginbotham enters his 11th season as the Associate Head Coach for TCU Women’s Soccer, a testament to his enduring commitment and pivotal role in transforming the program into a national powerhouse. Higginbotham is far more than an assistant coach; he is recognized as a key architect of the Horned Frogs’ success, responsible for scouting and securing the talent pipeline while meticulously developing the field players. His decade-plus tenure provides the bedrock of stability and high-level performance that defines the TCU standard.

A Force on the Recruiting Trail

As the team's top recruiting assistant, Coach Higginbotham operates with a reach that is truly global. His unparalleled success on the recruiting trail has fundamentally reshaped the program’s identity, attracting top-tier talent from coast to coast across the United States, as well as internationally. He possesses a keen eye for identifying athletes who not only excel on the field but also fit the high-character culture cultivated in Fort Worth. This ability to consistently secure elite, diverse talent is a critical factor in TCU's sustained competitive edge at the highest level of collegiate soccer.

Elevating the Program to Elite Status (2020-2021)

The 2020-21 season stands as a monumental reflection of Higginbotham’s impact and the resilience of his coached players. Navigating unprecedented challenges, the team achieved heights never before reached in program history. Their historic run included winning the first-ever conference championship, earning a coveted No. 4 National Seed, and making a deep, unforgettable journey to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. This achievement is a clear indicator of the exceptional technical coaching and mental toughness instilled by the leadership team, with Higginbotham’s work in player development being central to this success.

Foundation of Excellence and Experience

A Dallas native, Higginbotham brought a wealth of high-level coaching and directorial experience to TCU. Prior to joining the Horned Frogs, he served as the highly influential Director of Coaching for the girls division at the prestigious Dallas Texans Soccer Club. His pedigree also includes a prior stint as Director of Coaching from 2003-2006. Since 2008, he has further contributed to the development of American youth talent as a Region III staff coach for the US Olympic Development Program. Additionally, his experience spans the men’s collegiate game, having served as an assistant coach at both the University of Akron (March 2006 to June 2007) and Furman University for two seasons.

Personal Drive and Commitment

Beyond the pitch, Coach Higginbotham is supported by his family. He and his wife, Julie, are proud parents to their son, Brayden, and their daughter, Olivia. This foundational commitment to family reflects the same values of dedication and support he brings to his role at TCU, fueling the driven leadership that propels the women's soccer program forward year after year.
